ABOUT

The Village of Endicott is embarking on a revitalization plan for its downtown center. Learn more about this exciting process!

The Village of Endicott is embarking on a revitalization initiative to transform a 450-acre area encompassing much of our downtown center. Through the New York State Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) program, we're working to create sustainable redevelopment opportunities that will breathe new life into our community's heart while protecting local water quality and encouraging economic growth.

Brownfield Opportunity Areas are areas within a community whose economic vitality has been negatively affected by the presence of vacant, underutilized and dilapidated properties. These properties are sometimes impacted by environmental contamination (or the perception of contamination) which has impeded redevelopment, resulting in a lack of  investment and in some cases, deteriorated physical and/or aesthetic conditions.

What is a Brownfield?

A brownfield is an abandoned, idled, or underutilized property where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination.

The vision plan (referred to as a Nomination Study) developed for the Imagine Endicott BOA will provide a thorough assessment of current conditions throughout the study area and work with community members to establish a shared vision for downtown's future. Through extensive public engagement, we'll identify strategic redevelopment opportunities and develop specific recommendations for transforming underutilized sites, enhancing public spaces, and improving key corridors.

This strategic approach to revitalization creates a positive cycle of community improvement. As we invest in public amenities and help remediate and redevelop underutilized properties, these improvements boost surrounding property values, enhance public health and quality of life, and attract additional private investment that strengthens the entire downtown area.

STUDY AREA

The 450-acre Imagine Endicott study area encompasses the central core of the Village, including Washington Avenue, North Street, the Huron Campus, the Little Italy neighborhood, and the former Kmart site. This process will culminate in a master plan for the entire study area that combines public realm improvements with strategic sites for catalytic redevelopment and areawide strategies to revitalize downtown Endicott.
